Who We Are

“Small meditation centers should be started in quiet places where a few truth-seekers will come to meditate and learn the way to commune with God. . .”
- Paramahansa Yogananda

We extend a warm welcome to join us in our search for God. Our Kriya Yoga path is based in practice and experience and not on belief and dogma. As such, its teachings and practices can benefit followers of all religions and those who follow no religion.

As Paramahansa Yogananda envisioned in the quote above, our meditation circle got its start in 1973 when “a few truth-seekers” began meditating together in their Pittsburgh homes. With the guidance of Self-Realization Fellowship (SRF), the circle has grown, and now devotees from all over the region gather weekly to “meditate and learn the way to commune with God.” Visits from SRF Monastics (pictured here) have been a particular blessing for our devotees.

Our circle was not the first SRF group to be formed in Pittsburgh.  Paramahansa Yogananda himself initiated the “Pittsburgh Center” during visits to Pittsburgh in 1926 when he gave lectures and classes at Soldiers and Sailors Hall (pictured here). In 1927 he returned to Pittsburgh and held a meditation with the devotees.
